There’s really no need to stay indoors all winter when you’ve got spectacular hikes like this. Spirit Falls is located just north of the Columbia River near the town of Cook. While the trek to get to there is short, at just a little over a half-mile, the reward for that bit of effort will bring you to an incredibly magnificent scene, with the cascades an intense turquoise hue. And, you might even spot kayakers paddling the river, enveloped in the chilly mist of the falls.
There isn’t a trailhead or even a sign, but as it’s a popular place to visit, you can easily see the path that’s being worn in, which leads directly from the Cook Underwood Road pull-off; follow it to the river.
