This spectacular photo was taken by Eric Miller of the U.S. Forest Service on August 25, 2022. The fire retardant drop was over the Crockets Knob wildfire, in remote, steep terrain near John Day, in the Malheur National Forest located in Eastern Oregon. The fire was started by lightning and reported around August 22nd. As of August 27, it had grown to 1,000+ acres. Everyone in the Pacific Northwest is thankful to the brave men and women who work to fight the many wildfires that pop up during the summer all over the Northwest.
