Finding the Great Pumpkin – The Best Pumpkin Patches in the Northwest

Published by Carla Christian On September 30, 2025

When October rolls around, kids (and plenty of adults) begin their search for the Great Pumpkin. While you may never spot Charlie Brown’s legendary magical pumpkin rising from the most sincere patch, searching for the perfect one is still a beloved fall tradition.

These days, pumpkin patches are about a LOT more than just pumpkins. Many offer a full day of fun, with things like corn mazes, hay wagon rides, and autumn-themed games. And don’t forget the treats, because who doesn’t love a pumpkin donut (or two) and a mug of fresh-pressed apple cider?

It’s a fun outing whether you’re bringing the kids or hanging out with friends. Here’s a list of some of the best pumpkin patches in the Oregon and Washington where you can find your own Great Pumpkin.

Oregon

The Pumpkin Patch, Sauvie Island, OR

The Pumpkin Patch, Sauvie Island

The Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island is a Portland-area favorite. It’s one of the island’s original farms and has been welcoming families for decades. The big draw here is the sheer variety—you’ll find acres of pumpkins to wander through, a free hayride out to the fields, and a giant red barn that feels straight out of a storybook. Inside the market, you can load up on fresh produce, locally made jams, and fall treats, so it’s easy to make a whole afternoon of it.

The Pumpkin Patch is more than just pumpkins. Kids love exploring the animal barn, and the massive corn maze is always a hit—it changes themes every year, so there’s always something new to discover. If you go on a weekend, be prepared for crowds, since this spot is well-loved by Portlanders. Still, the atmosphere is festive and fun, and with so much space to spread out, it never feels overwhelming.

Yesteryear Farms, Wilsonville, OR

Yesteryear Farms is a fall favorite in Wilsonville, Oregon. You can wander the fields hunting for the perfect pumpkin, and let the kids burn off their excited energy climbing the hay pyramid or racing down the tube slides. There are photo ops at every turn where you can capture Insta-ready, fall-perfect memories. Friendly farm animals welcome petting, and character appearances add a little extra magic to the day.

The fun goes beyond pumpkins, too. A ticketed 10-acre corn maze winds through the fields with more than four miles of paths to explore. Free refreshments, Friday night movies, and weekend food trucks make it easy to spend the whole day at the farm. You’ll also find plenty of outdoor décor for sale—corn stalks, mums, hay bales, rustic crates, and more—so you can bring a little of that festive farm feeling home with you. Choose from 26 varieties of pumpkins to purchase, with names like Munchkin, Mini Warts, and Batwing.

Roloff Farms, Hillsboro, OR

If you’re looking for a pumpkin patch with LOTS of activities, Roloff Farms in Helvetia should be on your list. Every October, the farm throws open its gates for its Pumpkin Festival, complete with acres of pumpkins to choose from and plenty of attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Kids love climbing around the play areas, getting their faces painted, and meeting the friendly animals, while the whole family will enjoy wagon tours around the farm that stop at fun landmarks like Molly’s Castle, the Bamboo Forest, and the Goat Hotel (yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like). You’ll also find a giant pumpkin house, a scenic walking trail, and plenty of spots for those can’t-miss fall family photos.

What really sets Roloff Farms apart is how much there is to do beyond just picking out a pumpkin. The festival has food carts serving up fall favorites, live music, and a cozy market where you can browse seasonal treats, crafts, and décor. You can hop on the farm’s famous train ride, let the kids explore the play structures, or just wander and take in the crisp fall air with a hot cider in hand. For fans of “Little People, Big World,” there’s the extra fun of visiting the real farm you’ve seen on TV.

Fun for all ages, especially when you want more than just “pick your pumpkin” and leave.

On top of that, the food & treats don’t disappoint. You can munch on their famed apple cider donuts, sample freshly pressed apple cider, grab hot drinks, and more from their farm vendors and food stands. They also host special events like the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, Pumpkin Drop, and live music some weekends, which give the whole place an extra festive buzz. With free parking, a dog-friendly vibe, and lots of places to stretch out and enjoy the scenery, it makes for a fun-filled fall day.

Families love the bounce pillows, super slides, and playgrounds. And don’t forget the photo ops–between pumpkin fields, rustic farm scenes, and festive décor throughout, your camera roll will be busy.

And of course, no fall festival is complete without good food. Their snack barn is packed with treats: apple cider donuts, kettle corn, hot drinks, and savory bites that are perfect after you’ve worked up an appetite picking pumpkins or doing maze loops. If you want to bring some autumn home, their market has fall décor like cornstalks, gourds, and hay bales.

If you want to make the day extra cozy, you can reserve a private tent through their party rentals, giving your family a spot to relax while still enjoying all the activities.

Tips for Visiting a Pumpkin Patch

If you’re planning a trip to a pumpkin patch this fall, here are a few handy tips. Weekends are usually the busiest, so if you can swing a weekday visit, you’ll have an easier time parking and more space to roam the fields. If weekends are your only option, try to arrive early in the day before the crowds pick up. Some patches offer free parking, but lots can still fill up quickly on sunny October afternoons.

It’s also smart to bring cash for markets and food stands, since not every vendor takes cards. Wear comfortable shoes—you’ll likely be walking across uneven ground, dirt, and gravel paths between the pumpkin fields, corn mazes, and hayrides. A wagon is a great idea if you’re planning to pick up more than one pumpkin, especially with kids in tow. And don’t forget to dress in layers: fall weather in the Northwest can swing from crisp mornings to warm afternoons.
