There is just something about afternoon high tea. I adore the mismatched china. The casual elegance. Three tiers of beautiful food. This week was lunch at Lovejoy’s in east Portland. Like having tea at your Grandmother’s, lunch is a semi-casual affair, with lace topped tables, mis-matched china, and a fun, happy atmosphere.
Lovejoy’s is British with a bit of a Northwest twist. A nod to the Northwest’s love of healthy foods, there are great options for vegetarians, vegans, and those looking for a fresh, healthy lunch. Maybe try a little pear and stilton salad; a crumpet; or a chicken salad sandwich. They have an extensive tea list so you can choose the variety you prefer – you won’t be limited to just English Breakfast or Earl Grey. Perhaps you’d prefer citrus chai, vanilla lavender, queen’s blend, or rose. They also have a small gift shop where you might find a beautiful teapot to take home. You don’t have to be British to love the afternoon tea experience!
