Earth Day is a perfect day to celebrate and be grateful for the spectacular beauty of the Northwest, which is why we’ve chosen this magical moment as our photo of the week, captured by Stu Davidson Photography.
This orca, as Davidson notes on Instagram, was one of the transient orcas that came into Puget Sound this week – you can view many more photos of the orcas on his Facebook page here.
As you may already know, our Southern Resident orcas are endangered, but there are a number of organizations advocating for their well-being and freedom, like the Whidbey Island-based Orca Network who was featured recently on Faces of the Northwest – check out the interview here for more information on what this wonderful non-profit group is doing as well as how to spot whales in the area.
