Find out why this ancient drink is making such a buzz in the modern age.
The Drink of the Gods
When you think of mead, you may think of Beowulf and Vikings or Knights in Shining Armor. It is a drink that has been around since at least 4,000 BC all over the Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa.
What is mead? Mead is a fermented honey alcoholic beverage that is making a resurgence in the Northwest. With abundant access to local honey, several meaderies in the Northwest are worth a stop, each with its own unique style. Mead can be flavored by altering the amount and type of fruits, spices, hops, or grains to the honey which creates an amazing variety of options. The alcoholic content varies from about 3.5% to 18% and can be found still or carbonated, dry, semi, and sweet. The varieties are endless!
