The lavender was in full bloom, and the bees were busily humming away in the sunshine. I just spent a lovely afternoon at Helvetia Lavender Farm with my daughter having lunch and tea out on their deck overlooking a fabulous view of the valley around Hillsboro.
Lunch was served with a choice of a pot of hot tea or a glass of iced tea in several different flavors. The light lunch was perfect with quiche, salad, and fruit, as my daughter is vegetarian. Lunch was followed with a really good scone with lemon curd, devonshire cream, and berries.
The service was very friendly, the deck decorated in a shabby chic style, with mismatched cups and teapots, purple fabric tablecloths and flowers from their garden decorating the tables.
But tea at Helvetia Lavender Farms is really about the location. What a beautiful view, and what beautiful lavender! They were setting up for their big Lavender Festival coming up soon July 12-14, 2019. They already had their gift shop set up and fully stocked with very nice lavender related items – many of which they make themselves including scented candles, honey from those busy bees, flavored teas, lotions, and much more.
For me, it’s so nice visit someplace that feels a world away from urban life, but is actually only 10 minutes from a major highway. Once you exit onto Helvetia Road, you enter rural Oregon and the stresses of big city traffic seem to melt away. Go pick up some lovely lavender (dried lavender lasts SO long!) and smell your way to relaxation. With a cup of tea in hand, of course!
