The 65th annual Portland Highland Games will take place this weekend, July 15-16.
This Scottish experience features Scottish pipe bands, bag pipers and drummers, dancers and athletes. While not everyone likes the bagpipes, especially when not played well, this event is a ton of fun, not only for those with Scottish ancestry, but for people of all backgrounds. And, if you aren’t sure if you have any Scottish in you, you might be able to find out by visiting the Scottish clan tents to learn about your family’s history.
Immerse yourself in fantastic music and culture, watch demonstrations – the sheep dogs are awesome, and check out the amazing athletes that compete in ancient games. Of course, you can also sample Scotch whisky in the tasting tent, enjoy a cold brew or two, dine on all types of tasty foods and shop for Scottish products and gifts.
The Games are held on the athletic fields of Mount Hood Community College and the gates open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
