There is something beautiful in restoring the past. While many might have thought the old structure was just something to be torn down or nothing better than a shed, Jake Clary saw what it could be. Situated next to his existing other business, the Local 20 Taproom in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, this 1947 WW2 era Quonset hut had seen many different incarnations. They were originally designed to be used as temporary housing for military families, but Jake Clary saw a coffee shop. And he’s made it better than it ever was before.
After extensive restoration, he and his family have created a welcoming, modern coffee shop with a tip of the hat to the past. Their coffee shop believes in being socially responsible, and restoring this Quonset hut to new glories is one way they’re giving back to the community. At Primal Coffee, they serve high quality, ethically sourced coffee from around the world.
If you are in the beautiful Skagit Valley for the spring flowers this season, or just passing through, make a point to stop by Primal Coffee in downtown Pedro-Woolley and say hi to the roaming mascot, Sadie. Sit with a nice hot cup of coffee, relax in the friendly atmosphere, and admire the beautiful interior work, with the arched ceiling hinting at its past life.
