Choosing this week’s photo to feature was really a no-brainer. Just check out all those brilliant colors! We can thank @samsnaps77 for snapping this incredible image at Steptoe Butte State Park, a 1,000-foot-high quartzite island that rises from the silty soils of the Palouse hills in Colfax, Washington.
The butte contains some of the oldest rock in the Northwest, and it marks the border of the original North American Continent. The summit features an interpretive wayside exhibit, while outdoor displays explain the site’s natural history, surrounding and distant landscape features.
